£85,000 Inveraray public toilet refurbishment approved

PLANS for £85,000 worth of repairs and refurbishments to Inveraray’s public toilets have been given the go-ahead.

Argyll and Bute Council proposed to make the upgrades at the facilities on Front Street, which include a new roof, doors and windows.

The planned works have now been confirmed as a permitted development by the authority’s planning officers.

An official said in a handling report: “The proposal is for the upgrade of the exterior of the public conveniences located at the entrance to the slipway at the waterfront. The internal layout accesses, fenestration siting and use of the building are not being changed.

“The proposed works are for a general upgrade to the existing public conveniences. It does not raise any other planning issues.

“The site is next to the A83 Trunk Road within the settlement’s conservation area. Although visible from Inveraray Castle Garden and Designed Landscape the upgrade to the outside of the building is not deemed to have a detrimental effect on any of these designations. No statutory consultations were required.

“The cost of the works is estimated at £85,000. The proposal is to be undertaken within the local authority of Argyll and Bute Council and the development costs do not exceed £250,000 and is not on any other land.

“Therefore, in regard to Class 33 (c) of the Town and Country Planning General Permitted Development (Scotland) Order 1992 (as amended), the proposal is classed as permitted development.”
