New farming opportunity offered to aspiring farmers

ASPIRING and developing farmers are being invited to apply for a new agricultural tenancy as part of efforts to help more people establish themselves in the industry.

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is offering a 70-hectare grazing tenancy at Glenprosen in the Angus Glens, combining livestock farming with nature restoration and biodiversity work.

The initial five-year tenancy includes grazing land and agricultural buildings and is expected to begin in spring 2027, although an earlier start could be agreed.

The opportunity forms part of FLS’s commitment to supporting young and new entrant farmers and follows 17 leased sites announced during 2025/26.

The successful applicant will work alongside an existing conservation grazing operation at Glenprosen, with livestock management expected to contribute towards habitat restoration across the area.

Agriculture Minister Jim Fairlie said the tenancy offered an opportunity for somebody with livestock management skills to establish or expand a sustainable farming business.

He said: “Farming plays a vital role in the future of our rural economy. This is an excellent chance for someone with livestock management skills to establish or grow a sustainable farming enterprise in the Angus Glens while making a valuable contribution to the local community.

“The Scottish Government has made it a priority to create more opportunities for new entrants and developing farmers and I have been liaising closely with Forestry and Land Scotland as it looks to deliver on that commitment.

“This new tenancy is the latest example of how we can create pathways for new and aspiring farmers to develop their businesses, build skills and support the long-term resilience of the sector.”

Mr Fairlie said sensitive grazing management would also allow the tenant to contribute towards wider land management objectives, demonstrating how farming and environmental work could operate alongside each other.

Applications must be received by noon on Wednesday, October 14.

Further details and an application pack are available from Forestry and Land Scotland’s farming opportunities page.
