EIGHTEEN community projects in Helensburgh and Lomond have been recommended to share £22,500 of council funding – but another four are set to miss out.
Argyll and Bute Council’s supporting communities fund is set for its latest round of grant funding, with nine initiatives proposed to receive the maximum possible grant of £1,500.
These include Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank, Arrochar and Tarbet Three Villages Hall, and Cove Burgh Hall. Helensburgh Bowling Club, Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club and Kirkmichael Community Development Group are also listed to benefit.
Among those recommended to receive no award are the Friends of Jean’s Bothy, and Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust, the latter of which would have used funding for the Cove and Kilcreggan 10k race.
A report on the recommendations will be considered by councillors at a meeting of the authority’s Helensburgh and Lomond area committee on Tuesday, September 8.
On the foodbank’s funding request, the document said: “Funding is firstly required to enable the group’s capacity to grow by providing training opportunities for volunteers. Secondly to pay a facilitator to support engagement with the client and the community.”
For the Three Villages Hall, it said: “Funding to add an outside tap to the Village Hall to allow for easy access to water for plant container watering. The funding will also be used to purchase materials to repaint the external woodwork and scaffolding hire costs.
“This will allow the building to be maintained and the planters to continue to provide an aesthetically pleasing area.”
The bowling club’s funding request was described as “Funding requested to purchase four carpet bowls, a carpet bowls carpet and bowling arms.
“These resources will enable the group to provide assistance to people who have a physical difficulty, allowing them to compete at the same level as those who are able bodied.”
For the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club, the report added: “Funding is requested for the purchase of helmets and buoyancy aids for dinghy sailing, enabling children and young people to try the sport without having to buy the equipment. The project teaches water safety as part of the programme.”
Also recommended to receive no award are Rosneath Peninsula Amenity Society, and the Parent Led Baby Group.
