Six-goal thriller for Brandane Bulls youngsters

YOUNG footballers from Brandane Bulls served up an entertaining six-goal contest at the weekend as their 2013 side drew 3–3 at home to Port Glasgow BC.

The match proved to be an exciting encounter from start to finish, with both sides sharing the spoils after a lively game.

Port Glasgow made the brighter start and took an early lead when their number 25 produced a superb strike to put the visitors ahead.

Playing against a strong wind in the first-half caused the Bulls plenty of problems, making it difficult for them to move up the pitch. Whenever the home side tried to play the ball forward, the conditions often saw it quickly return back towards their own half.

Despite the challenges, the Bulls managed to level the match from one of their few first-half chances. A neat lay-off to Harris on the edge of the box allowed him to fire a powerful shot into the goalkeeper’s right-hand side of the net.

However, Port Glasgow regained the lead shortly before half-time. A long, high ball into the penalty area caused difficulties for Bulls’ keeper, with the wind helping carry the ball into the net to make it 2–1 to the visitors at the break.

But the Bulls emerged strongly after the interval and quickly found their way back into the game. Robin produced a composed finish with his weaker foot to bring the sides level once again.

The home side then moved ahead for the first time when Oscar finished off a well-worked move with a fine strike to give the Bulls a 3–2 advantage.

As the wind began to ease, Port Glasgow were able to push further up the park and began creating chances of their own. Their pressure eventually paid off when they equalised from a free-kick to make it 3–3.

Both teams continued to push forward but neither could find a winner, with the final whistle confirming what many felt was a fair result after an excellent game of youth football in Rothesay.

Brandane Bulls named Oleksii Handzoshyn as their player of the match after a strong display at centre half, where he read the game well and rarely put a foot wrong throughout the contest.

The club also thanked Billy McGregor for his support as the matchday sponsor.
