Paddle Steamer Waverley will now continue to operate on the Firth of Clyde until mid-September, past its usual August season end.
Waverley Excursions, which operates the historic vessel, made the surprise announcement that sailings will continue today (Friday).
Waverley returned to service in June and has operated for much of the summer, at reduced capacity due to Covid restrictions.
Waverley’s General Manager, Paul Semple, confirmed the additional sailings and commented: “Waverley has shown herself to be a popular attraction on the Clyde coast with many sailings sold out this season.
“Given the level of support and positive feedback we have taken the decision to keep the paddles turning for a few weeks longer. I hope locals and visitors who are looking for a day or afternoon out will take this opportunity to step aboard the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world.”
During September there will be a variety of sailings on offer, including the classic cruise around the beautiful Isle of Bute.
The final weekend of sailings (September 18 and 19) will see Waverley retrace her historic roots as she cruises to Arrochar at the head of Loch Long.
Looking forward to the final weeks of the season, Mr Semple added :“Waverley has now carried over 30,000 passengers this year on her home waters, a great result given the restrictions due to Covid.
“We look forward to welcoming those who have yet to enjoy a cruise aboard the Clyde’s famous steamship before the season closes.
“The last trips of the year often prove popular before Waverley is laid up for the winter months.”
The additional sailings programme can be viewed at the Waverley website (waverleyexcursions.co.uk).
Tickets can be booked in advance or purchased on board. On several sailings, there are discounts available for seniors and kids travel free on selected trips.
