Gus MacPherson has been ‘relieved of his duties’ following Morton’s disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Ayr United on Saturday December 4.
It wouldn’t take long for former Morton manager Gus MacPherson to be spotted exiting the building following the full-time whistle, as MacPherson was almost instantly told he was no longer needed at the club on Saturday.
MacPherson was in the dugout for 39 games during his time at Morton, winning only three out of a possible 24 league games in the process.
Morton have only won twice this season, both away from home against Hamilton and Dunfermline. Fans have been left frustrated with the style of football being played, brandishing MacPherson’s tactics as ugly and unenjoyable.
A highlight of MacPherson’s tenure was the ‘Ton’s play off victory over Airdrieonians in May, which secured Championship status for the sixth season in a row for the Greenock side.
Nonetheless, a 2-2 home draw to Ayr United solidified MacPherson’s departure, a game which the home side should have seen out comfortably.
A Gozie Ugwu double would be enough to keep Morton off the foot of the Championship table, but not enough to keep MacPherson in his job, as fans voiced their clear concerns as jeers echoed around Cappielow.
Morton announced MacPherson’s departure in a club statement, which said: “The club can today announce that, following today’s game, manager, Gus MacPherson, has been relieved of his duties. We would like to thank Gus for his efforts and hard work during his time at the club and wish him all the best for the future.
Whilst the recruitment process takes place, head of youth academy Derek Anderson, supported by assistant manager Andy Millen and reserve team coach John Sutton, will take the realms as Morton look to kickstart their season heading in to a hectic Christmas schedule.
