Ardentinny Music Club celebrates milestone

The Ardentinny Music Club celebrated its second anniversary in the local village hall. The evening was an informal get together for members and families to celebrate the achievements of the group and individual players over the last year. A short award ceremony took place during which

Dave de Kort received the ‘Top Note’ award not only for his singing but for the expertise and guidance he has given to the group and its members.

David Moodie presented his wife Lydia with the ‘Sweet Note’ trophy for the player who had improved the most over the last year.

John and Mary Martin won a meal for two donated by the Ardentinny Restaurant. Not only did they join the group as complete beginners but Mary is one of the group’s vocalists. She has also raised funds for the group through knitting and, to the delight of the group, she and John arrive every week laden with homemade cakes.

The ‘Bum Note’ prize went to Susie Robertson for her outstandingly no inability to tune her banjolele at Sandbank Senior Citizens.

A big thank you goes to Neil Robinson who handcrafted the awards and to the Ardentinny Restaurant for their prize meal.

Mike Loochin, who runs the group, said: “I thought when Neil and I started the club that it might just be three of us who came along and I’m a bit stunned that it is still going and has attracted more members. Everyone who attends deserves an award, not only for persevering with their musical journey, especially when dragging themselves out on a cold, rainy and windy winter evening, but also for the goodwill and friendship that is abundant between the members. It is an honour and joy to be a part of it”.

During February 2023 the first of the weekly meets was attended by nine people, seven of whom had never picked up an instrument. The group has gone from strength to strength with a regular attendance of 19 from beginners to experienced players. All or a combination of players form The Famous Ardentinny Band which has performed at Dunoon and Sandbank Senior Citizens Clubs as well as The Ardentinny Bar and Restaurant.
