Bute Games 2025: A Winning Weekend

THIS YEAR’S Bute Highland Games drew competitors and visitors from near and far, reinforcing the Games as a showpiece event for the Isle of Bute’s calendar.

A familiar face served as honorary Chieftain: Coinneach MacLeod, better known as the Hebridean Baker. This was his first time presiding over a Highland Games event in Scotland, and he expressed how deeply honoured he felt as he welcomed crowds, handed out awards, and took part in the lively celebrations. He noted the “joyous” atmosphere and praised the sense of community brought to life by the volunteers.

Athletics featured prominently, with the 10K Road Race offering runners spectacular views.

The Games continued to uphold its traditions in Highland dancing, pipe bands, heavy events, athletics, and shinty. Despite some challenges, including rising costs and volunteer pressure, organisers remain proud of what was achieved. Chair of the Games Committee Billy Shields acknowledged the dedication required year- round by the committee and volunteers.
