DUNOON SENIOR Citizens’ Club marked a milestone last week with a celebration to unveil their newly installed defibrillator – the tenth now available across the town.
The club hosted a special ‘Defibrillator Celebration Day’ on Wednesday, September 10, to recognise the achievement, which has been several years in the making.
Funds for the life-saving device were raised at the club’s annual concert in May, which brought in £1,500. The total was reached thanks to a generous donation in memory of John Denham, given by a long-time friend of the family. Entertaining at the concert were Miller- Crossan and Hank Brown’s Bairns.
The celebration on Wednesday featured performances from Robin and Andy of Cowal Elderly Befrienders, who entertained and joined in cutting the cake.
The ribbon was cut by Kay Denham, secretary of the club, who expressed thanks to the committee, members and local businesses for their support.
She said: “My grateful thanks go to the committee who all work hard at all the club’s events. Thanks also go to Steven Gibson Ltd for the installation of the defibrillator.”
The addition of this latest defibrillator brings Dunoon’s total to ten, underlining the importance of having these vital devices accessible throughout the community. Local groups are encouraging residents to familiarise themselves with the locations of all defibrillators in the area, as quick access during a cardiac emergency can make the difference between life and death.
The club’s members say they are proud not only to enhance safety at their venue but also to contribute to Dunoon’s growing network of publicly accessible defibrillators.
