RNLI Tighnabruaich fundraisers on a roll

RNLI Tighnabruaich volunteers raised more than £1,000 during a day of bag-packing, collections and a pop-up shop at Morrisons in Dunoon.

The group secured £1,257.25 and fundraiser Tricia Jones thanked shoppers and store staff for their backing–and singled out a special guest for boosting the total.

She said: “We are so grateful to Dunoon Morrisons who allowed us to set up. We were extremely well supported by the shoppers and the staff and thanks to Stormy Stan, whose presence massively lifted donations.”

The supermarket effort followed a successful JustGiving fundraiser linked to the Kyles 10 Miles road race in September. Local volunteers Jane and Sue trained for the event and ran an online appeal which brought in £1,050. Although Sue was injured and unable to take part on the day, supporters continued to donate in recognition of the pair’s efforts.

The RNLI emphasised that all donations are vital, as the charity receives no government funding. While many supporters like to give directly to their local lifeboat station, centrally raised funds help to pay for crew training, technical support and the specialist equipment that enables rescues across the UK and Ireland.

Locally, the fundraising team keeps up its year-round efforts, including running the lifeboat station shop in Tighnabruaich, which generates steady income for the charity that saves lives at sea.

Anyone wishing to support the RNLI can donate in store during future collections, visit the Tighnabruaich shop, or keep an eye on local appeals shared by the fundraising team.
