COUNCIL officers have approved plans for six new homes on Mull, despite four objections from the public.
Nick and Allison Robb submitted the proposal for a site north of Linndhu Cottage at Tobermory in March, with a decision issued several months after it was projected.
The objections all came from the same address, and expressed concerns about the amenity of existing residents, including the removal of trees from the site.
A planning official responded that some trees would be retained and that the planned properties were a suitable distance from the nearest residential accommodation.
The officer said in a handling report: “The layout of the proposed development would comprise three plots to the north of Aros Burn and two plots to the south of the burn.
“Each of the north plots would share a vehicular access which would extend from the loop road. The most northeasterly plot would comprise two semi-detached, one-bedroom dwellings.
“The second and third plots would each be four-bedroom dwellings. The two plots to the south of the burn would also share a vehicular access from the loop road, with each plot being four- bedroom dwellings. The dwellings would be sited within the plot so as to minimise the requirement for cut and fill.
“The proposed semi-detached dwellings, referred to as houses 1A and 1B, would be single storey, with narrow linear forms, dual-pitched roofs and gable ends. The dwellings would share a covered parking area and would each have an outdoor terraced area.
“The proposed detached four-bedroom dwellings, referred to as houses two, four and five, would be made up of two parallel linear forms adjoined by a flat roof link; the forms would be single storey and one and a half storey in height.
“The remaining four-bedroom dwelling, referred to as house three, would comprise two narrow linear forms of single storey and one and a half storey, occupying an ‘L’ shaped plan.”
The officer added: “The site is considered to represent an appropriate opportunity for development with the proposed dwellinghouses which would be of an acceptable scale, siting and design.
“No objections have been received from consultees with regards to the proposed infrastructure to serve the proposed development.”
