Dunoon modellers steam into Greenock anniversary show

MEMBERS OF the Dunoon Community Shed Model Railway Group rolled into Greenock last weekend to exhibit two layouts at the Greenock Model Railway Club’s 40th anniversary show

Held at Lyle Kirk, the event featured more than 14 layouts from clubs across the region.

Dunoon’s display included Nutty Slack, a compact hands-on layout that proved a hit with younger visitors who could take the controls themselves, and Bishop’s End, an end-to-end, OO gauge layout designed and built by Dave Clough with help from fellow members.

Bishop’s End depicts a heritage line shared with a local quarry, allowing a wide mix of locomotives and rolling stock to run through the scene.

Adding to the local flavour, the winner of this newspaper’s free family ticket competition, published last week, was announced as the Wals family from Kilfinan. They attended on Sunday and were welcomed by members of the Dunoon Community Shed.

Organisers hailed strong attendance throughout the weekend, with plenty of interest in Dunoon’s layouts and the club’s community workshop activities.

The Dunoon Community Shed Model Railway Group meet formally on Thursday evenings at the Shed at 8 Hamilton Street between 7pm and 9pm, with some members being present on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons too.
