Plans lodged for Rosneath Peninsula sound studio

PLANS have been lodged for a sound studio to be set up on the Rosneath Peninsula.

Management of Cove Park, a residence for national and international artists and creative practitioners, has sought to install the facility along with an accommodation unit at its Peaton Road site.

It is said that the planned sound studio will provide a soundproofed environment for musicians and artists to create music.

Argyll and Bute Council’s planning officers are expected to rule on the application by mid-July, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.

A statement submitted with the application said: “Cove Park is an internationally recognised artist residency based on a 50 acre rural site in Argyll. Cove Park’s residencies are unique in the UK.

“From launch in 2000, our programme was conceived for local, national, and international artists working individually and in collaboration in all art forms, and at every career stage.

“We remain the only residency in the UK to bring together at any one time, and consistently throughout the year, up to 14 individuals specialising in a wide range of disciplines. This means we can offer exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary work and cultural exchange.

“Cove Park has attracted many musicians and sound artists, however, without a dedicated purpose designed sound studio the artists are limited in their method of working.

“The proposed development will answer this need by providing a soundproofed and acoustically crafted space in which musicians and sound artists can create.

“The sound studio will be complimented by accessible residency accommodation. The development of the sound studio will be a positive contribution to the economic viability of Cove Park and make a valuable contribution to the cultural infrastructure of Argyll and Scotland.”

The statement added: “The proposed development provides dedicated purpose designed working space for residency musicians and sound artists.

“The proposed development is located adjacent to an established arts centre of national significance located in a rural setting. The purpose of the building is to attract artists to travel to Argyll to enjoy residency at Cove Park.”
