Musician Carl Peterson goes back to his roots

AN EVENING of traditional Scottish music is coming to the Oakbank Community Inn in the shape of Scots-born, Pennsylvania-based singer and guitarist Carl Peterson.

Born in Greenock, Carl developed a passion for folk music and songs at ceilidhs and draws his inspiration from the likes of Burl Ives, The Kingston Trio, The Weavers, The Corries, Tommy Makem and The Clancy Brothers.

His musical career began in Canada, where he performed from Newfoundland on the East Coast to British Columbia in the West, before moving to the US where he’s appeared at countless Scottish and Irish festivals and concerts.

Carl is also an established writer, having penned a couple of books, with a third due out soon.

“They say you can take the boy out of Scotland, but you can’t take Scotland out of the boy. I have performed in every province in Canada and every state in the US, but it’s great to be able to come back to Scotland,” said Carl.

He is playing the Oakbank on Friday, May 29.

The Oakbank is also playing host to four history talks every Sunday (6-8pm) from May 24. Entitled The Colourful Characters of Cowal, the presentations cover the lives of Archibald Clark Kerr, Sir Harry Lauder, Sir Fitzroy Maclean and Elizabeth Blackwell, four individuals with links to Cowal who have made a global impact.
