Dunoon Grammar confident ahead of August exam results

DUNOON Grammar School’s head teacher has voiced his confidence in good results for pupils when exam results are released in August.

David Mitchell also outlined the importance of working with counterparts at Rothesay Joint Campus throughout the year.

Senior pupils have also been taught occupational skills, including how to work as a barista. Exam results for 2025/26 will be sent out by Qualifications Scotland on Tuesday, August 4.

Mr Mitchell addressed councillors at a meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal area committee on Tuesday, June 2.

Councillor William Sinclair (Liberal Democrat, Cowal) asked Mr Mitchell if he was happy with the direction of attainment at the school.

Mr Mitchell responded: “Within Dunoon Grammar School last year, we had a little dip, and we have put in a huge amount of effort this year to drive attainment, which has been our number one priority.

“We put in a number of other opportunities across the school to ensure we meet the needs of all of our young people, no matter what route they are going to follow.

“These include things like customer services, level six statistics and barista skills. We know not all young people will follow the academic route, so we have done work on that in the senior phase.

“It has been a pleasure working more closely with Rothesay Joint Campus, and we have had several meetings this year as a leadership team.

“That is something we will be building on. We are working on moderation so that all schools understand the standard required to achieve at BGE (broad general education) and in the senior phase.

“I am really heartened by this year, and our staff have taken on board the direction we want to go in. I believe we will see an upward trend next year in BGE and the senior phase.

“I am quite optimistic for August 4.”
