Busy week sees Dunoon Hill Runners competing across Britain

DUNOON Hill Runners members were in action across Scotland and beyond last week, taking on a varied programme of races ranging from challenging ultramarathons to trail events and road races.

Leading the way was Emma Stewart, who enjoyed an excellent result at the demanding Scafell Skyline race in England, finishing first in the female over-45 category in challenging conditions.

Meanwhile, Ricky Reid tackled the GB Ultra Scotland 50, a gruelling 58-mile ultramarathon featuring around 10,000 feet of climbing between St John’s Town of Dalry and Moffat.

Despite a difficult build-up to the race due to troublesome quad muscles, Reid successfully conquered the grassy hills, mountains and boggy terrain to complete the challenging course.

Fellow club members George Fagan and Jean Macdonald took part in the Glen Lyon Ultra, a 31-mile race known for its stunning scenery and unpredictable conditions.

Competitors faced additional challenges this year following recent heavy rainfall, with the race’s multiple river crossings deeper than usual. Nevertheless, both runners completed the demanding event, which regularly tests participants with a combination of heat, rain or, on occasion, both.

Closer to home, Lorraine, Wendy and Alan represented Dunoon Hill Runners at the Milngavie Trail Race, while a strong club contingent travelled to Ayrshire for the popular Roon The Toon 10k in Kilmarnock.

Deborah, Christina, Sarah, Chris-Marie and Eilidh all took part in the event, continuing a busy and successful week for the club.
