DAY two of this year’s Cowal Gathering brought another packed programme of competition and entertainment as Highland dancers, pipers, classic cars and live music took centre stage in Dunoon.
The action began at 8.30am on Friday as the Scottish National Highland Dancing Championships resumed across the dancing platforms at Dunoon Stadium.
While dancers battled for honours, attention also turned to the Top Field from 9am as the Gathering’s juvenile solo piping competitions got under way.
By lunchtime, some of the Gathering action had moved away from the stadium and into the heart of Dunoon.
The classic car display returned to the car park at Alexandra Parade and Church Street from 1pm, giving motoring enthusiasts and passers-by the chance to admire a collection of vehicles as Gathering weekend continued across the town.
As evening arrived, attention returned to the Top Field – and this time it was all about the music.
Friday night’s Gig at the Gathering was once again a sellout, with crowds packing in for an evening showcasing some of the best of Scotland’s contemporary traditional music scene.
This year’s headline act was Heron Valley, who brought the second day of the Gathering to a rousing close.
They were joined by Rhuvaal and the Ross Miller Band, creating a line-up packed with the modern west coast sound which has become a firm part of Gathering weekend.
After a day which began with Highland dancing and solo piping and moved through classic cars to a packed night of live music, Friday offered a little bit of everything.
And with the main Gathering day still to come, Dunoon was well and truly in Cowal mode.
