Editor – Regarding the replacement bus option for the CalMac ferry are we not missing the point? It is the ferries that need replaced with sea worthy vessels, a promise that has been broken countless times by successive transport ministers. How long till they cancel the buses or just dont turn up. The replacement bus service that is currently in operation is far from reliable. Our downfall can be traced back to the decision to replace the streakers with a passenger only service.
This subsidised crossing has left us vulnerable and over the past 15 years we have paid the price with an unreliable and suboptimum service. This service was designed to fail from the outset and has opened the door to a vital town centre link being lost forever.
