Blairmore and Strone celebrate success

Blairmore & Strone Golf Club finished the year in style with an end of year prize-giving and Christmas celebration at the Strone Inn on Saturday, December 13.

Cups were presented by the ladies captain, Lorraine Daw, and gents captain, Michael Caveney.

The cups are played for throughout the year in a variety of formats, from the standard 18-hole competitions to competitions played over two, three or six games.

Most are stroke play, but there are some Stableford and some curiosities such as the back to front, the one club and the three clubs and a putter competitions.

This results in an interesting mix of competitions over the year. In addition, the club has the Texas scramble on Sundays and the Monthly Medal competitions. All cups, apart from the Away Day and the Back to Front, were open to both gents and ladies.

The winners were:

Loraine Daw: Club Championship, Winter Cup, over six monthly competitions, the Marshall/Patterson Gross competition, the Rosebowl, the Ladies Back-to-Front and the Ladies Away Day.

Donald Cameron: the Ne’er Day Cup and the Connel Quaich.

Eileen Dargo: the Finlay Morris Cup and the Strone House Cup.

Bruce Marshall : the Volvo Cup.

Neil Munroe: the Marshall/Patterson Net Competition and the Captain’s Prize.

Billy Ferguson: the Sunday Cup and the Blake Cup.

Russel Clark: the Millar McClure.

Raymond Gorman: the Men’s Back-to-Front Cup.

Innes Lambert: the Men’s Away day

In addition, prizes were presented to Russel Clark and Raymond Gorman, who both achieved a hole-in-one during the year.

There were further novelty prizes and games, making the evening a great success, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves.
