YOUNG people in Dunoon will have the chance to experience two of Scotland’s traditional sports at a free shinty and golf camp this month.
Cowal Golf Club is bringing back its Shinty and Golf Camp in October, giving young people the opportunity to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends.
The camp will take place on Thursday, October 8, at Dunoon Grammar School Gym Hall.
The initiative is a partnership between Scottish Golf and the Camanachd Association, with support from Sportscotland, and has been inspired by golfers like Bob MacIntyre, who grew up playing both golf and shinty.
The morning will begin with fun golf activities from 9.30am to 10.30am, led by qualified instructors. As the golf activities will take place indoors, they will be aimed particularly at young people looking to try the sport.
Shinty activities will then take place from 10.45am until 12.30pm, with qualified instructors and activities suitable for all levels.
Thanks to funding through the Sportscotland Summer of Sport 2026 project, the camp is completely free.
As the camp is taking place during the morning, lunch will not be provided.
The partnership between Scottish Golf and the Camanachd Association aims to give young people in rural Scotland the opportunity to experience two of the country’s great sports in a fun and inclusive environment.
Organisers are particularly keen to welcome girls, as well as young people who may face barriers to participating in sport, including those who are less physically active or for whom the cost of organised sport can be a challenge.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those interested are asked to register by October 5 at 12pm through the QR code attached to be considered for a place, with final allocations and joining instructions to be confirmed before the camp.
Places will be prioritised for those who did not manage to take part in the previous shinty and golf camp held during the summer.
Anyone with questions about the camp can contact [email protected].
