Decision deferred on future of Visit Bute

MEMBERS of the defunct board of Bute’s Business Improvement District, or BID, have delayed making a decision on the future of the Visit Bute tourism and events website for at least a week.

The move is designed to give the former directors an opportunity to consider which of two island-based groups would be best-suited to take on the highly-regarded site.

Several options had been open to the board but the former directors have whittled the list down to two.

The former chair of the BID programme, Duncan Martin, told The Isle of Bute News each group is aware of “the responsibilities” of running and maintaining the prestigious Visit Bute title.

“We’ll come to a decision soon,” he said. “It really has to go to the right people.”

Duncan Martin said the former BID team is open to suggestions on how best to see the site continue.

“It has to be managed and operated by someone who puts the interests of the island first,” he said.

Visit Bute was being developed as the “go to place” for visitors, showcasing events and accommodation on the island. As it was operated by the BID, which lost its campaign for a second five-year term in office, it now has to either close or be continued by
another entity.
