Golfers contest the Mickey McArthur Memorial Golf Day

ROTHESAY Golf Club had the privilege of hosting the Mikey McArthur Memorial Golf Day at the weekend, with an impressive array of prizes on offer for the competitors.

Despite yet another wild and windy day on Bute, there was some excellent golf on display, with Matt McLean of Port Bannatyne taking the overall honours with an impressive 37 Stableford points.

Robert Walker finished in second place with 36 points, a score which included a couple of costly no-scores. He narrowly edged out Hughie Charker, who took third place after the countback.

The scratch prize went to Iain Simpson, who returned an excellent score of 74. Stevie McDonald finished second with a 75, while Michael Murty took third place with a 77.

There were also plenty of opportunities to pick up prizes on the course:

Longest Drive, 2nd: Robert Walker; longest Drive, 16th: Stuarty Brady; nearest the pin, 8th: Hughie Charker; nearest the pin, 11th: Tommy Duncan; nearest the pin, 13th: Stuart McLean; nearest the pin, 18th: Iain Simpson.

The raffle held during the day also raised a considerable amount, which will be put towards a dartboard, surround, lights and scoreboard at Port Bannatyne Golf Club, Robert Walker’s home club.

Last year’s raffle provided Rothesay Golf Club with similar equipment, helping to encourage both members and non-members to make use of the clubs for social activities.

In a sdtatement on social media, the club gave a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored, organised, supported and took part in the events, making the Mikey McArthur Memorial Golf Day another great success.
