High standard on show at Cowal Camera Club nature competition

COWAL Camera Club recently held its annual Nature Competition, with members competing for the coveted Nature Trophy. The event showcased the high standard of photography being produced by club members.

Judging was carried out by Paul McDougall, a professional wildlife photographer from Blantyre and a familiar face at the club. He praised the outstanding quality of both print and digital entries, noting that the consistently high standard made judging a challenging but enjoyable task.

In the print section, a number of images received commended and highly commended awards. Third place was awarded to Bernard Ormrod (Heron Fishing in the Margins and Puffin), Sybil Baldwin (Hummingbird Hawkmoth), and Isabella Hillhouse (Family Gathering). Second place went to Sybil Baldwin (Crestie No.1), Bernard Ormrod (Mute Swan), Andy Daw (On the Prowl and Smile for the Camera), and Isabella Hillhouse (Evening Light). First place was won by Andy Daw for Just Sitting in the Woods.

The digital section was equally competitive again, a number of images received commended and highly commended awards, Third place went to David Fiddes (Gnome Picnic), Andy Daw (Pecking Order), and Sybil Baldwin (Skylark). Second place was awarded to Sybil Baldwin (Crested Tit), Lorraine Parramore (Harris Snowstorm), Adam Heath (Noisy Neighbours), and Andy Daw (Taking It Easy and That Feels Good). First place went to Lesley McKay for Garden Spider.

The overall winner of this season’s Nature Trophy was Andy Daw for Just Sitting in the Woods. The competition was a great success and highlighted the creativity and skill within Cowal Camera Club.

Cowal Camera Club meets regularly throughout the season at the Community Shed, Wellness Room, Unit 2, 8 Hamilton Street, Dunoon. The club warmly welcomes photographers of all levels—from smartphone enthusiasts to seasoned DSLR users.
