Volunteers fight to save Rothesay cancer charity shop

VOLUNTEERS at Rothesay’s Cancer Research UK shop are fighting to save the popular Montague Street outlet from closure, after helping raise more than £1 million for cancer research over the past 20 years.

The charity plans to shut the shop by the end of the financial year, blaming rising costs and changing shopping habits.

But volunteers say the shop provides a vital social lifeline for island residents, as well as raising funds for cancer research.

Argyll and Bute MSP Jenni Minto has backed calls for the decision to be reconsidered, while a petition to save the shop is gathering support across Rothesay.
