WHILE MANY bride and grooms flock to Dunoon’s Victorian pier for wedding photos none have actually tied the knot on the pier – until last week.
Newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Przybysz became the first couple to ever say ‘I Do’ in the iconic building when they wed last Friday (March 26).
Due to some building works taking place at Castle House, Mandy and Rafal’s wedding had to be moved at the last minute. But what could have been viewed as an inconvenience actually made the day even more special for the bride, whose family has a history with the pier.
Mandy told this newspaper: “My uncle actually served as pier master for about 40 years, and it was the first time he had been back since, so that was really special.
“I feel really lucky that we were able to get married on the pier, it’s such a shame that isn’t being used. It’s a bit surreal to think that we are the first – and could possibly be the only couple to get married in it.”
The pair who met at work had originally planned to get married in Rafal’s native Poland but were unable to due to current travel restrictions.
Mandy continued: “Rafal’s mum was able to watch the ceremony from Poland via zoom, and my family was able to watch from the balcony doors outside. My dad was even allowed to walk me down the pier.
“Once we are allowed to travel again, we are hoping to have a celebration in Poland.”
Currently, no more than five people are allowed to attend weddings in Scotland which has forced many couples to postpone but this pair decided to go ahead.
Mandy continued: “We kept putting it off but, in the end, decided why wait? We wanted the wedding to be for us not anyone else.
“Sometimes the small personal weddings are more special anyway.
“We have had a really difficult year as a couple, so it was nice to have a bit of happiness to finish it off.”
