Police Scotland has confirmed that two arrests have been made in connection with an overnight fire on Argyll Street, Dunoon.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said this morning (Friday): “A 30-year-old man and a 14-year-old male youth have been arrested after three properties were damaged by fire in Argyll Street, Dunoon around 4 am on Friday, 20 August 2021. No-one was injured and enquiries are ongoing.”
An eyewitness, Summer Bradley, told this newspaper: “My partner heard it first throughout his dreams and it sounded a bit like pops and bangs similar to fireworks. I started to wake up but I only thought it was the bin truck until my partner, Jack, went to our bedroom window which looks down onto the street and there was this roaring orange fire.
“The flames covered quite a large area so originally we thought it was Sinbad’s on fire until we could see properly.
“The smoke was pretty prominent too at that point even though the fire department was already on the scene with one truck and a few fighters. A few minutes later another truck with more firefighters arrived and that’s when we decided to grab our two-year-old and leave the house before anything got worse.
“We returned home around 6.30am when the fire had died down to a deep white smoke.
“On returning we were escorted to our flat. The flats on the side of the fire have all been evacuated.”
Our thoughts are with the affected business owners and their staff.
