A daring duo are attempting to become the first-ever pair to Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) from Land’s End to John O’Groats, and their challenge will see them paddling through the Firth of Clyde, and across to the West Coast of Bute.
David Chant and Sophie Witter are currently paddle-boarding their way 1600km across the length of Britain to raise £24,000 to be split between three charities; RNLI, Wilderness Foundation UK and Frontline Children.
They are currently on day 67 of their adventure and hope to make it to the west coast of Bute tomorrow (September 22) before the forecast turns bad.
So far they have paddle boarded along the Cornish and Devon coastlines before using the canal network of the Bristol Channel to the Irish Sea. Before working their way through Scotland.
At the time of publication, they are paddleboarding just off the coast of Ardrossan.
Their challenge named SUP IT & Sea will be completed without a support boat using only land support. This means the paddlers will be travelling from beach to beach during the expedition, adding another challenging element to the expedition. Average distances will be 40km per day weather dependent, and the aim is to finish the challenge in two to three months.
They have already been blighted by bad weather and a Covid-19 scare so are calling on locals to keep an eye out for them and support them along the way.
