DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a car was set on fire last night on John Street.
The incident happened between 11.30pm and 11.55pm and the blaze was extinguished quickly by local firefighters. There were no reported injuries.
Its understood the vehicle, which had been parked at the corner of John Street onto Victoria Road, started to roll forward whilst on fire as the blaze had melted the handbrake cable.
Detective Constable Ross Hardie said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the fire to contact us.
“This fire is being treated as deliberate. We are particularly keen to trace the driver of a small, light-coloured car which was seen travelling on Victoria Road, towards Hamilton Street.
“We also ask anyone with private CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time to come forward.”
