The Isle of Bute Golf Club’s popular winter leagues are in full swing, with players embracing the chilly autumn weather and showing off their competitive spirit.
October saw the official start of both the Wednesday nine-hole league and the Saturday 18-hole league, which are both shaping up to be exciting contests this year.
The Wednesday nine-hole league is being kindly sponsored by Steven Thomas Finance, while Bute Quarries Readymix – Ambrisbeg Ltd. has stepped in to sponsor the Saturday 18-hole league, providing a much-needed boost to the event.
With a third of the league already completed, here’s a look at the current standings for both competitions:
Wednesday, nine-Hole League:
As of November 27, five players have already submitted the required eight cards.
This includes some familiar names as well as a few rising stars in the league. The current top three players, with their points scores, are:
Phil Ratcliffe – 132 points
Colin Cuthbert – 130 points
Alex Webster – 129 points
The close competition between the top players suggests a thrilling battle for the top spot in the coming weeks.
With several rounds to go, it’s anyone’s game.
Saturday, 18-Hole League:
As of November 30, six players have submitted seven of the required eight cards.
The race at the top is equally tight in the Saturday league, with Phil Ratcliffe, continuing his great form from Wednesday’s competition, leading the charge:
Phil Ratcliffe – 248 points
A McMillan – 221 points
S Smith – 221 points
With just one card left for many of the players, the standings could shift dramatically as the final rounds play out.
As the leagues progress, players will continue to submit their cards, and the competition is set to heat up with the colder weather.
The winter leagues are not only a fun way to keep active over the winter months but also provide a great opportunity for club members to socialise and challenge themselves on the course.
A big thank you goes to Steven Thomas Finance and Bute Quarries Readymix – Ambrisbeg Ltd. for their generous sponsorship, ensuring that these leagues remain a highlight of the Isle of Bute Golf Club’s annual calendar.
Stay tuned for further updates on the standings.
