Six of Dunoon’s riverside competitive squad travelled to Dumfries for a weekend of competition at the Spring Splash Meet.
All six returned with multiple personal best times and an array of medals.
16-year-old Sam Law won gold in the 50, 100 and 200m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke, silver in the 50 and 100m butterfly and bronze in the 50m backstroke – whilst recording personal best (PB) times in all nine of his events.
One of his most impressive PB’s was his 100m freestyle, done in 61 seconds.
In the same age group, Blair McPhee, carrying an injury, still achieved gold in his 100m and 50m backstroke, silver for 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle and bronze for the 100m and 50m freestyle.
His 50 backstroke time of 33.78 seconds as the pick of his PB’s.
Leo Lukass, competing in this level of competition for the first time and also in the 16-year-old age group, gained gold in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 100m breaststroke and the 50m butterfly.
His 100m butterfly time dropped down by five seconds to 1.19.
Amber Gordon, also 16, won gold in the 200 and 100m backstroke, and bronze in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle.
Her 200m backstroke time of 2.54 was an improvement of 27 seconds.
Kjera Thorup (13) returned to Dumfries, after her first competition there last year, and swam much improved times in many of her events.
She won bronze in the 100m butterfly and was fourth in the 100m backstroke in a six-second improvement time of 1.36.
Finally, Lily Davis, also 13, making her debut in individual competition, excelled with a clean sweep of PB’s, all with huge improvements, and her 50m freestyle PB has now become a competitive 36 seconds.
Coach David Robinson, with assistants Rachel Stewart and Macy Law, was very happy with the swimmers’ efforts.
All the swimmers work hard at training, and this has showed in their performances.
