THE SUN shone brightly over Kirn last Friday as more than 20 community volunteers gathered for the annual Envirokirn summer planting session.
Armed with trowels and surrounded by trays of small plants, the group met at the flagpole to begin their seasonal mission to brighten up the village. While a few
seasoned gardeners were on hand, most were local residents keen to lend a couple of hours to help make Kirn bloom.
The area surrounding the flagpole and its shoreside seating – a much-loved focal point in the village – was the starting point for the group’s efforts. But the impact of their work stretches far beyond,
with eye-catching displays continuing from the bottom of James Street to Dhalling Road and right up into the upper reaches of Kirn.
Many of the planters across the village have been provided by Envirokirn, but it’s local residents who take on the task of maintaining them throughout the summer months, keeping
them healthy and looking their best.
Thanks to generous donations and financial support from local individuals and groups, Kirn can once again look forward to a season of colour and pride in its public spaces.
The return of ‘Kirn in Bloom’ is a welcome sign of summer on its way.
