The club’s proposal, which also includes security fencing, has been awarded planning permission after no representations were received from the public.

Argyll and Bute Council recognised that the planned 107-seat stand would provide “enhanced facilities” for spectators on matchdays at Glencruitten Park.

An officer said in a handling report: “The application proposes the spectator grandstand along the western boundary of the rugby pitch. The grandstand is a typical, pre-fabricated, steel structure measuring an overall length of 16.1 metres with an overall height of 4.595 metres. The grandstand will provide 107 seats over four rows with dedicated disabled seating provided.

“The security fencing is proposed along the perimeter of the rugby pitch, excluding the club house, to allow for the safe access and egress of spectators.

“In addition to the spectator grandstand and security fencing, the application indicates a 1.8 metre wide accessible access track leading from the club house along the interior western perimeter of the proposed security fencing.

“A 1.2 metre wide informal access path is proposed on the exterior of the security fencing to its western perimeter linking into an existing footpath network and the rugby club car park.”

The report added: “The proposed spectator grandstand, security fencing and access paths to serve the rugby club and pitch are considered to be appropriate works, providing improved facilities for spectators and improved security for the rugby club.”
