LOCAL MSP Jenni Minto has said Scotland ‘needs a fresh start with independence’, arguing it should be up to the people of Argyll and Bute to determine that future, following the publication of a new Scottish Government paper.
‘A Fresh Start with Independence’ looks into how an independent Scotland could improve the economy, public services and living standards while tackling issues like migration, energy and defence.
In government, the SNP has worked to improve the lives of people living in Argyll and Bute using devolved powers but only with the full powers of an independent nation can we realise our full potential.
Jenni Minto MSP said: “The people who live in Argyll and Bute, and across Scotland, are best placed to make decisions about Scotland.
“Too many people here are suffering because standards of living in the UK have remained stagnant in the last decade under Westminster’s failed economics, austerity and the disaster that continues to be Brexit.
“Governments in London treat Scotland as an afterthought, but in government the SNP has worked within the constraints of devolution to deliver the very best for Argyll and Bute – whether it’s the expansion of early learning and childcare or the creation of the Scottish Child Payment.
“However, we could do so much more with the fresh start of independence.
“When Scots have the power to decide for ourselves, Scotland is better off. We can and we will be a successful independent country in the EU, and that’s the vision that this paper
sets out.”
