INNELLAN Golf Club members have enjoyed a busy spell of competition over the past fortnight, with the prolonged dry weather leaving the course fast-running and challenging.

The fiery conditions have made scoring difficult, with players having to show plenty of imagination around the course to keep their rounds together. Despite that, several members have produced impressive scores as competition for silverware intensifies.

The Geoff Arden Trophy was won by Harry Black, whose excellent round of 65 secured victory by a single shot. Dan Wilkinson finished a close second on 66, while Collin Duncan took third place.

The May Medal and Seniors Tankard also proved to be tightly contested. Derek Purdie claimed top spot with a 65, edging out Neil Ferguson by one stroke. Gordon Miller was a further shot back in third.

In the Saturday Series, week three saw a standout performance from Dan Wilkinson, whose superb 61 topped the leaderboard. Gordon Miller was just one behind, with Shonna Derrett taking third on 67. Week four was another close-run affair, with Garry Hopcroft winning on 36 points. Simon McMahon also posted 36 but lost out on countback, while Ben Bryant was third on 35.

The Ladies’ Centenary Cup attracted a strong turnout. Margaret Lauder took the honours with 19 points, ahead of Katie Houstoun on 16 and Rhona McCourt on 14.

The Wednesday Series continued to draw good numbers. Week three was won by Thomas Law with 19 points, followed by Len Maxwell on 17 and Neil Ferguson, also on 17. In week four, Douglas Wright came out on top with 20 points, with Margaret Lauder second on 19 and James Gallagher also scoring 19.

One of the highlights of the fortnight came during the McGillivray Quaich, when Robert Baxter produced a memorable hole-in-one on the fourth hole. His tee shot landed on the crest of the hill, took a perfect bounce and rolled straight into the cup. It was Robert’s sixth ace, and understandably left him smiling.

Club members also paid tribute to the greenkeeping staff for maintaining the course in excellent condition during the dry spell, while players are reminded to keep an eye on Masterscoreboard for upcoming competitions.
