VISITORS to one of Bute’s best-loved beauty spots can once again safely access the shoreline at Ardscalpsie after a major improvement project restored the steps leading from the viewing platform down to Scalpsie beach.
The route had recently been highlighted as a concern after damage to the old steps made the descent hazardous. Warning notices were put in place and visitors were advised to take care, while an alert was also shared through the Discover Bute website.
Now, following work commissioned by Bute Conservation Trust, the access has been fully repaired, with a newly installed flight of steps significantly improving the path.
The work was carried out by Stuart Strathie and his team, who replaced the damaged section with sturdier wooden steps and installed a solid wooden bannister in place of the old rope handrail.
Trustees at the Bute Conservation Trust said they were pleased to see the route restored, making the walk to the popular beach safer for residents and visitors alike.
The project was made possible thanks to financial support from For Bute, whose donation covered the cost of the work. Trustees have expressed their gratitude to the group for its generous backing, which allowed the improvements to be carried out quickly.
Ardscalpsie remains one of the island’s most scenic locations, with the viewpoint overlooking the west coast and the path leading down to the beach used regularly by walkers and wildlife enthusiasts. The upgraded access is expected to make the area more welcoming once again, particularly as visitor numbers increase over the summer months.
