Port Bannatyne Golf Club welcomed players from near and far for the 28th staging of the popular JMF Tankard competition.
Sponsored once again by the Fergus family, their extended family and friends, the annual event attracted a strong field, including nine golfers travelling from outside the island to compete for a wide range of prizes and the coveted JMF Tankard.
Competitors enjoyed favourable weather conditions and a course described as being in near-perfect condition, thanks to the ongoing efforts of greenkeepers Duncan and Graham.
There was some impressive scoring throughout the day, with John Black emerging as the overall winner of the JMF Tankard after carding an excellent net 64. Black secured victory on a better inward half after finishing level with Colin Renfrew, who took second place. Gordon McIntyre claimed third place with a score of 65.
Donald Standaloft recorded the best scratch score of the day with a fine 66.
The competition also featured several special prizes. Magic twos were recorded by Roddie Leitch, John Whitelaw and Steve Dalton.
Alex Morrison-Cowan won nearest the pin on the tenth hole, while Colin Renfrew claimed nearest the pin at the 18th. Jack Standaloft secured the longest drive prize at the second hole and Graham Dunn took nearest the pin in two shots at the third.
In the overseas visitors category, George Kays claimed first place with a score of 68, ahead of Campbell Brierley on 73 and Alan McEwan on 75.
Organisers also paid tribute to those who helped make the event a success. Thanks were extended to John Whitelaw and Donald Standaloft for collating handicaps and scores, while Hazel, Jean and Roddie were recognised for their hospitality in the clubhouse bar and kitchen throughout the day.
The club also thanked the Fergus family for their continued support of one of the most anticipated fixtures on the Port Bannatyne golfing calendar.
With another successful competition completed, attention is already turning to next year’s event.
