DESPITE the rain earlier in the week, the ground staff prepared an excellent pitch and outfield as Bute County and Cowal Cricket triumphed over their Western Championship division four visitors from East Kilbride by 69 runs.

Captain Louis Ware was running a half marathon in the morning, leaving vice-captain Chris Goan to win the toss, but he proceeded to lose, leaving Bute to bat.

The openers fell cheaply but Guy Crichton took it upon himself to get runs on the board with an impressive 30. Captain Ware eventually arrived in the middle, batting at six and hitting a quick-fire 69 before falling to one of the opposition’s young talented bowlers. Ware was ably supported by Goan in the partnership of the match with a well-deserved 18.

Bute ended their innings on 150 all out with just a couple of overs left.

The Bute attack, led by Crichton (4-42), went about the challenge of bowling out the opposition with regular wickets tumbling. Ware (3-4) and Goan (2-3) dismantled the tail.

The game finished with the opposition all out for 81 following an acrobatic diving catch by Lindsay Towers, belying his three score years.

The win sees Bute County and Cowal rise to second in the table as they prepare to face an away fixture at Mearns next Sunday.
