Dunoon youngsters ready to roll back to the 80s with Xanadu Jr

DIG out the leg warmers, turn up the neon and prepare for a trip back to the 1980s as Dunoon’s young performers bring a roller-skating musical adventure to the stage.

YouthSTUFF will transport audiences to a world of music, magic and disco fever this weekend with its latest production, Xanadu Jr, at the Queens Hall.

The colourful, high-energy show promises love, laughter and plenty of 80s nostalgia as a Greek muse inspires a struggling artist to follow his dreams and create the world’s first roller disco.

Described as hilarity on wheels, Xanadu Jr is a tongue-in-cheek musical comedy suitable for families, theatre fans and anyone looking for a feel-good night out.

Based on the Universal Pictures cult classic film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, the show combines Greek mythology with classic 80s pop culture in a story about creativity, confidence and chasing your ambitions.

The Tony Award-nominated musical features a hit soundtrack from Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, with audiences able to enjoy well-known songs including Magic, All Over The World, Evil Woman and, of course, Xanadu.

The production is the latest offering from YouthSTUFF, Dunoon’s inclusive community youth theatre group, which gives children and young people the chance to develop confidence, creativity and performance skills.

The group has built a reputation for bringing ambitious productions to the local stage, with previous shows including their sell-out pantomime Pure Freezin, as well as The Addams Family musical and Alice in Wonderland.

Organisers are encouraging the community to come along and support the talented young cast, who have been working hard to bring the bright, bold world of Xanadu to life.

And for anyone still needing convinced, the show even features what promises to be the world’s most spectacular giant disco Rubik’s cube.

Xanadu Jr takes place at the Queens Hall on Friday, June 26 at 7.30pm and Saturday, June 27 at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available online from LiveArgyll, in person from Toytastic, or on the door, priced 12 general admission, 6 for under 18s and free for children under five.
