Truly spectacular! Chitty flies high at Rothesay Joint Campus

A FLYING car, a talented young cast and a touch of theatrical magic helped Rothesay Joint Campus wow audiences with its latest school production.

Almost 600 people attended Chitty Chitty Bang Bang last weekend as 30 pupils from across the campus brought the much-loved musical adventure to life across three performances.

The ambitious production featured the famous flying car alongside colourful characters, big musical numbers and performances which earned glowing reviews from audiences.

The story follows eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts and his magical car Chitty as they take on the child-hating rulers of Vulgaria, Baron and Baroness Bomburst.

The cast included Grace Wallace as Caractacus, with Cora Pescod and Lauren Jankowitz taking on the roles of the villainous Baron and Baroness.

Dylan Pellegrotti played Toby, who leads the rebellion in a kingdom where children are banned, while Oisin Canavan brought one of the storys most memorable characters to life as the Child Catcher.

Audience highlights included the high-energy performance of Me Ol Bamboo and Amelia Harrisons performance as Truly Scrumptious during Doll on a Music Box.

Comedy came courtesy of Archie Shaw and Angus Hindley as spies Boris and Goran, while Lachlan Somerville appeared as Grandpa Potts and Darcy Auld took on the role of the Toymaker.

Poppy Gray and Ella Docherty completed the principal cast as Jeremy and Jemima Potts.

The production marks the fourth consecutive school show for Rothesay Joint Campus since 2023.

Director Ryan Lowe was supported by choreographer Anna Harrison, with Fay Davidson leading props and stage management.

Following the performances, audience members praised the cast and crew on social media.

One said: Ive seen many a school production over the years, and this was right up there with the best. The talent on stage was incredible, and its worth going just to see a flying car.

Another added: Every single cast member gave a West End worthy performance and that is no exaggeration.

Others praised the choreography, direction and set design, describing the production as superb.

With another successful show completed, plans are already underway for next years production.
