Two current exhibitions within the Dunoon Burgh Hall galleries have been extended for a further week as interest soars.
Both the Alasdair Taylor exhibition, taking place in the Colm Docherty Gallery, and Beyond Dunoon, by Cowal Open Studios, taking place in the small gallery, have been awarded a week’s extension due to positive uptake.
As a result of this extension, both of these exhibitions will continue until July 25.
The Alasdair Taylor exhibition takes place as this time would have marked the artist’s 90th birthday.
Taylor was born in Edderton in the Highlands of Scotland and went on to study at the Glasgow School of Art from 1955 to 1959.
Subsequently, in 1973, Alasdair Gray stated that Taylor was “a lyrical painter: a painter whose colour, like a musician’s sound, makes sombre and radiant feelings without showing (as many painters do and all writers must) details of the social life causing them.”
Taylor made a prominent impact during his time as an artist, both within the art world and within society as a whole.
The exhibition itself showcases a large amount of Taylor’s artwork from throughout his lifetime, to celebrate both his successful career within the art world and an occasion which would have marked his 90th birthday.
The exhibition also purposes as a means to present the evolution of Taylor’s artwork throughout his life, and the vast range of different works that he produced. His love and passion for making and creating spread throughout his lifetime, making the art that he produced diverse and unique.
The Dunoon Burgh Hall also offers the opportunity to purchase Alasdair Taylor’s artwork, as the majority of the exhibits on display in the gallery are for sale.
Additionally, if you visit the Burgh Hall this week, you will have the opportunity to view the second exhibition, the Cowal Open Studios pop-up show.
This show features the work of eight members of Cowal Open Studios. The artists involved are Marie Briggs, Angela Scrivins, Monya Wren, Janna Maxfield, Gabor Horvath, Robin Webster, Laura Herrington and Frances Cox.
These artists are rotationally in attendance at the exhibition to speak to members of the public who are interested in their artwork.
The artists involved within this exhibition produce their work in a range of different places around the Cowal area, such as Tighnabruaich, Colintraive and Strachur.
Open Studios organiser Frances Cox said: “It is no surprise to anyone that the extraordinary beauty of this peninsula, which we are privileged to enjoy, attracts and inspires creative people to take up their tools and interpret what they see and feel in their chosen medium.
“Many of these artists live some distance beyond Dunoon and we are delighted to bring this show to Dunoon Burgh Hall and to present their work to those who may not have experienced it before.”
All of the artwork displayed at this exhibition is for sale to the public.
Both exhibitions are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm until July 25.
