Some of Scotland’s finest pipers were among those competing for honours at this year’s Inveraray Highland Games, with competitors travelling from across the UK and overseas to take part in the prestigious solo piping competitions.
The event attracted a strong field across the local, junior and senior grades, showcasing established champions alongside the next generation of piping talent.
Among the day’s standout performances, Stuart Liddell of Inveraray claimed the prestigious Alasdair Crystal Memorial Trophy, awarded to the overall winner across the P & A Grade competitions. Liddell also won both the P & A Grade March and P & A Grade Strathspey & Reel, capping an impressive day on home soil.
There was also plenty of local success throughout the competition. Hugh Anderson won both the Local March and Local Strathspey & Reel, while Oban competitors featured strongly in the 15–18 age group, with Robbie Dewar winning the March and Alexander Cruickshank and Alasdair Bullock also finishing among the prizes. Bullock went on to claim victory in the Local 15–18 Strathspey & Reel.
In the junior open events, Morla Bruce of Alexandria secured the Clan Arthur Society Quaich, awarded for the best overall performance across the three junior disciplines, while Liam Kennedy of Glendaruel impressed by winning the Junior Open Strathspey & Reel and finishing fourth in the March competition.
The annual solo piping competitions remain one of the highlights of Inveraray Highland Games, attracting some of the country’s leading performers while providing a platform for young pipers to compete alongside some accomplished names.
