ROTHESAY Police Office could fully reopen next month after refurbishment, an inspector for the area has said.
Police Scotland announced a £2.4 million programme of work at the station last September, with a councillor seeking clarity at a meeting this week on when the improvements may be complete.
Inspector Bart Simonis expressed hope that it could be finished in September, but asked for patience while the work was completed.
The discussion took place at a meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal community planning group on Tuesday, August 11.
Councillor Peter Wallace (Conservative, Isle of Bute) asked: “Do you have an update on the work at Rothesay Police Office, and when it is likely to be finished?
“Do you also have data on how the work has impacted on interactions between the public and the police?”
Inspector Simonis responded: “On the last point, I am not sure. I will look into that to see if we can get some figures together.
“We remain open in terms of the 101 system, and there are areas we have of officers being visible. It is very important to have a safe zone to give the community access to the police.
“The building is looking great and the improvements are fantastic, but we need to ask for a bit more patience while we get it over the line.
“We are looking at September sometime, and are in negotiations for when it may be fully reopened. I am meeting the contractors on Thursday and should have more information on how it is developing.
“It has been a bit of a drag, because it was not meant to go this long, but these things tend to go on longer than expected.”
