YOUNG music lovers are being invited to experience the sounds of jazz at a special free family show taking place as part of the Bute Arts Society Jazz Weekend.
The Tenement Jazz Band will bring its interactive ‘Box of Wonders’ performance to the Glenburn Hotel at 11am on Saturday, September 5, offering children and their grown-ups a lively introduction to the music and technology of early jazz.
Described as a travelling museum of musical curiosities, the hour-long show will explore everything from sousaphones to gramophones, accompanied by live music, songs and instrumental tricks.
Young audience members will also have the chance to get involved, with opportunities to dance, drum, sing, conduct and perhaps even join the band themselves.
The Tenement Jazz Band specialises in New Orleans-inspired jazz, ragtime and blues and has performed at festivals, theatres and jazz clubs across the UK and Europe.
Following the morning family show, the band will return to the Glenburn later in the day for its main performance, with children once again able to attend free of charge.
The event forms part of Bute Arts Society’s expanded 2026 Gala Jazz Weekend, which runs from Thursday, September 3 to Sunday, September 6 and features 11 performance sessions across the island.
The ‘Box of Wonders’ family show begins at 11am on Saturday, September 5, runs for approximately one hour without an interval and is free for children to attend.
