Bute County & Cowal Cricket Club recently held their end-of-season dinner and AGM after what has been a challenging year for the Rothesay-based team.
Outgoing chair, Jack Deans, said: “Whilst we have struggled at times to put out eleven players, there have been some notable victories and a number of moments of individual and team brilliance. It’s great that we have picked up a few new players over the course of the year.
“Work on our pitch at Rothesay has proved difficult given the number of players on Bute, with people unable to find time due to work commitments.
“Whilst the club finished bottom of the Western District Cricket Union Championship Three, we have ambitious plans to develop the sport across what is a vast region, with suggestions to run beach cricket community 6s events and work with Rothesay Academy and Dunoon Grammar School (DGS) to attract younger players.
“We will be continuing with our winter cricket nets at DGS and are also exploring options for an artificial wicket. We also hope to announce new sponsors soon for the 2026 season.”
Jack will, alongside treasurer George Ross, be stepping down to be replaced by Lindsay Towers and Chris Marriott respectively for the new season.
Other committee appointments include Louis Ware as captain, Chris Goan as vice-captain and Sarah Swan as groundskeeper.
When it came to the awards, Louis Ware triumphed in the batting category with 431 runs and an average of 71.83, which placed him first in the division. Mark Crichton picked up the bowling award with 14 wickets and an average of 11.79 which placed him sixth in the league.
Adam Guy collected the fielding award, with Lindsay Towers being named Players’ Player of the Year.
Stephen Ramage won the accolade of Most Improved player and Guy Crichton picked up the Club Man award for his vital work on the pitch.
