Dunoon participates in Land Day walking challenge

IN SOLIDARITY with the people of Palestine, members of the Cowal community took part in the Scottish Palestine campaign’s Land Day walking challenge, from Dunoon Pier to Kirn last weekend.

A spokesperson for the group said: “ The humanitarian Land Day walk commemorates the end of the tree planting season in Palestine and the historical and ongoing land expropriation and suppression of the Palestinian people. The Land Day walking challenges took place throughout Scotland and in Argyll, one of particular significance was at the ruins of the 19th century Arichonan township, near Lochgilphead, where tenants in 1848 resisted the forced Highland Clearances.”

At the end of the walk, Ardentinny artist Bill Williamson thanked the Dunoon community for its support and narrated the poem by Michael Rosen, ‘Don’t mention the children’.
