Dunoon Police Five's returns

After a six year long sabbatical the much-anticipated Dunoon Police Five-a-Side Tournament made a welcome return, bringing football, fun, and a healthy dose of sunburn to players and spectators alike.

Friday kicked off with matches for local primary schools, with young players braving unseasonable wet weather to show off their skills on the pitch. Despite the drizzle, spirits were high and the event was a hit with both children and parents.

Unfortunately, Saturdays tournament which was due to host additional age groups had to be cancelled due to a lack of team entries. Organisers expressed their disappointment, stating: Were really sorry to those who were looking forward to taking part. Sadly, we didnt have enough entries to run the tournament on Saturday. We want to thank those who did sign up, and refunds for paper applications will be issued as soon as possible.

However, the sun returned just in time for the adult tournament on Sunday, and so did the crowds. Spectators gathered to cheer on teams with names as lively as their playing styles including Goal Diggers, Net Six and Chill, Average Joes, and Hotdogs.

After a competitive round of semi-finals, the grand final featured a cracking showdown between two fan-favourites: The Hotdogs and Net Six and Chill. In a tightly contested affair, both teams showed grit, flair, and no shortage of skill. But it was The Hotdogs who ultimately edged it, taking a 10 win and lifting the trophy after a brilliant display.

Organisers were full of praise for the volunteers and supporters and would like to give thanks to Alan McNee and the DYFL for use of equipment and facilities. Kirn Rooms Caterers for keeping everyone well-fed.

Appreciation for Charlie the groundsman, who prepped the pitches and managed the car park all weekend and a special thanks to the Dunoon Grammar School referee volunteers for stepping in on Friday, and to the five referees who travelled to help on Sunday.
