Victoria Tower webcam in Greenock set for upgrade

A webcam that shares a view from the top of Victoria Tower in Greenock will be upgraded – if the step is approved by Inverclyde councillors next week.

Elected members on the environment and regeneration committee will be asked to rubber-stamp the allocation of £2,600 for the works at next week’s meeting.

The camera shows an image, which can be viewed on the local authority’s website, that allows people to see what’s happening on the Clyde looking east towards Glasgow.

It was previously agreed at the Greenock Town Centre Regeneration Forum that available funding should be spent on the enhancement of the equipment.

If the move is given the go ahead by the committee, Inverclyde Council’s corporate communications team will organise an event to promote the upgrade.

A report, which will be considered at next Thursday’s meeting, explained: “The Greenock Town Centre Regeneration Forum at its meeting of February 25, 2026, unanimously agreed to the allocation of £2,600 of available funding to address an upgrade of the Victoria Tower webcam.

“Subject to committee approval, corporate communications will promote the webcam and carry out a publicity event launching the upgrade.

“The committee is requested to approve the allocation of funding which can be contained within the current unallocated balance of the Greenock town and village centre funds.”
