Young Highland dancers from the Isle of Bute were part of a championship-winning team at the Scottish Area Finals in Oban on Saturday, 2 May.
Ashley Laird and Lucy Cameron proudly represented Bute as members of Team Argyll & Bute, which was crowned overall winner at the prestigious national event — the only Highland dancing team competition held anywhere in the world.
The successful team also included Kayla Crow from Dunoon, Naomi Sim and Eilidh Gammons from Helensburgh, and Korri McMillan from Campbeltown.
The Scottish Area Finals bring together dancers from 17 areas across Scotland, with competitors qualifying through performances at selected championships and events held throughout the year. Each area is represented by a team of up to six dancers competing across Juvenile, Junior and Senior sections.
More than just a competition, the event is regarded as a celebration of Highland dancing, giving young dancers the opportunity to meet competitors from across the country while building friendships and representing their communities on a national stage.
The victory was a proud moment for Argyll and Bute and especially for Bute’s two dancers, whose performances helped secure the title against some of Scotland’s strongest Highland dancing talent.
