A DRINK-DRIVER who was almost twice the legal alcohol limit has been jailed after causing a serious head-on crash on the A815 near Toward Primary School.
Stewart Anderson, 47, from Lockerbie was sentenced to 116 weeks in prison at Dunoon Sheriff Court following the collision on July 19, 2023.
The court heard Anderson had been driving a van at excessive speeds on the Dunoon to Loch Striven road near Kilearn Farm and Toward Primary School.
While driving without due care and attention, Anderson forced other motorists to take evasive action and drive onto the verge to avoid being hit.
He then lost control of the van, crossed onto the opposing carriageway and smashed head-on into another vehicle, forcing it onto the roadside verge.
The driver of the car suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Police closed the road for a significant period while emergency services dealt with the incident and debris from both vehicles was cleared from the carriageway.
Anderson was found to have been almost twice over the legal drink-drive limit at the time of the collision.
