It has been a busy and highly successful spell for Cowal Golf Club, with members producing standout performances in the Shearwater Marine Services Melville Trophy Peninsula Open and the club’s thriving junior section enjoying a memorable evening event.
On the Cowal Long Loop (CR 70, Slope 130), competitors faced mixed weather conditions, but it did little to dampen scoring at the top end of the leaderboard. Home advantage proved decisive, with Cowal members dominating the prize-winning positions.
The standout performance came from Grant Stewart, who produced a brilliant five-under-par 64, highlighted by an impressive back nine of gross 37 to finish well clear of the field.
Behind him, a tightly contested battle saw Crawford Richmond, Finlay Thomas, and junior captain Connor MacPherson all finish tied on net 69. The trio could only be separated by countback on the better inward half, underlining just how competitive the field was throughout the day.
The club extended its thanks to visiting players from Blairmore & Strone Golf Club and Innellan Golf Club, whose participation added to a strong competitive atmosphere. Appreciation was also given to sponsors Shearwater Marine Services for their continued support of the event and the club.
Away from the Peninsula Open action, Cowal’s junior section enjoyed a fantastic evening with their One Man Two Ball Scramble, bringing plenty of competition to the course.
In the end, Duncan Weir claimed victory on countback (better inward half), with Rory Ledsom finishing second and Reese McDonald taking third place. The event was generously supported by Argyll Financial Services, who provided vouchers for the prize winners.
